Have a look around and see what our present and future projects are. It's the home of information for "The Hobbits' Tale" Guinness World Record™ ride in 2010 and the Welsh Coast 2 Coast.

Dave is a relative newcomer to success at 24hr solo racing, and is aiming to branch out into the creation of cycling legacies for future generations. He's doing this with his friend and manager, Rob Lee. We are part of "Team Syncros Endurance" and the whole project is termed "The Seven Deadly Spins."

These things are not going to be easy, but will aim to open up long distance mountain biking and cycling (or both at once) to those who may not otherwise feel that they can gain access to such challenges. Our routes are published so that others may glean some inspiration to help them conquer their own self doubt. Just because we generally aim to complete our routes in one go doesn't mean you have to too!

His main non-racing project for 2010 is, essentially, an adjunctive to "The Seven Deadly Spins." It has been planned in response to the personal inspiration Dave gained after the WC2C and the reaction from his Team mates and friends, old and new.  "The Hobbits' Tale" is a massive and scary undertaking that seems to be longest ever non-stop offroad ride. The Guinness World Record™ will be for "The greatest distance covered on a mountain bike in 48hours." The official guidelines are based on flat distance and ignores height gain. It's also suggested that it be done on an athletics track.

So...

...This will be a solo ride (supported by his friends, sponsors and believers) through Wales' toughest singletrack and climbs. The data collected indicates that it is a 630Km, 22300m ascent, and it *should* take 48-52 hours.

We don't want it to be boring, do we?

The route(s) are here.

Of course "The Hobbits' Tale" Guinness World Record™is aiming to raise funds for a cancer charity as this is close to to Dave's heart (and other bits) so if you have a few pounds to spare then please try and take the time to pop over to our charity page and give what you can. It will be greatly appreciated by all who gain benefit from this venture.

On March the 22nd 2009, Dave became the pioneering rider of the first Welsh Coast 2 Coast ride (WC2C). A fully unsupported winter ride that took 22hrs 24min and 49secs. He hopes that this is one route to watch for the future and feels that, in the summer, it'll probably go for 18hrs 55min to 19hrs 30min when a bigger hitter does it. Rich Holmes is the 2nd rider to do the route and his time was 20hrs 10mins in May 2010. See his report here.

Originally there were a set of "rules" developed for Dave to follow on the WC2C but "rules" didn't go down well with some purists of unsupported cycling so they were removed. But after a chat, Rich Holmes and I decided that they should go back up in some form to help those planning their first ever solo challenge. The project is here to help people become inspired and to progress, so these can only help in lighting the way slightly. The Guidlines are based on these rules and can be found on the results page next to the WC2C times.

Quite a few people are now considering using the route as a multi-day tour, and Dave may do this himself with some friends in the future as this is how the route was designed to be ridden: When life is a bit quieter.

Try following the blog, and ask questions or comment as you feel appropriate.
